The start of our Civil War history road trip with the kids. Savanna was one of the only cities not burned by General Sherman, probably because it’s one of the few places with no open container rules, so you can walk along the streets while drinking your yummy beer.

This fort, named after a Revolutionary War Polish officer, did not survive its first contact with the enemy. The North used new technology, rifled cannons, to destroy the brick walls in 1862 and conquer the fort in 30 hours.
